Temporary Paraprofessional- Whitson Elementary School
6 hours/day, 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Position ends June 13, 2025
$20.53-$27.52/hour

General Summary:
Actively assist students in small groups and/or on a one-to-one basis in or outside of the classroom to assist students in developing specified skills designated in the instructional plan.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
Builds and maintains positive and supportive relationships with students and staff
Follows and carries out the prescribed plan of instruction including instructional strategies and activities developed in coordination with the classroom teacher and/or Instructional Coach
Collaborates with other educators to create a supportive learning environment
Assists in the selection and development of supplementary learning materials as required
Uses assessment data to identify special needs of students
Assists classroom teacher with student assessments as needed
Utilizes effective behavior management strategies to support students
Maintains and submits necessary accurate records and reports, and meets all required deadlines
Relates to students, parents, and staff in a positive, professional manner
Works as a member of the building and district team
Assists with playground and lunch supervision
Job Requirements
Carries out the duties required by the position and other tasks assigned by the building administrator, classroom teacher(s) and/or Instructional Coach
Uses Microsoft Office software, Google Chrome, and other software as required
Reads and Interprets documents such as manuals, operating procedures, and District policies
Applies common sense understanding and carries out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
Shows initiative in projects and tasks assigned without specific direction
Works independently
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Maintains confidentiality
Specific Qualifications
Must have good interpersonal communication and public relation skills
Operate office machines and educational technology
Ability to read, write and understand English
Spanish language proficiency preferred
Education and/or Experience
Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
In addition, a paraeducator must meet one of the following:
Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment
Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
Have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council*
Successful candidate will be required to complete the Paraeducator Program to earn their General Paraeducator Certificate
